Large Wooden Hook

In Maori the hook (Hei Matau) is a symbol of good luck. It also represents the myth of Maui. Legend has it that Maui fished up the North Island using a hook made from the jaw of his grandmother. The fish-hook therefore represents the power and influence of the ancestors.
