Before the huia became extinct, Maori prized its feathers, keeping them in special boxes called wakahuia. 

The huia feather was worn in the hair or around the neck.

Now you can wear it in your hair, in this bone Heru dyed to look just like a huia feather.

Perfect for kapa haka performances.  

It is intricately carved to mimic the look of a feather.

For Maori, the huia feather was revered as a symbol of nobility, leadership, and hierarchy.

The white-tipped tail feathers were worn as head adornments to signify chiefs and people of great mana (authority and power).
