Bone Engraved Koru Pattern Toki with Paua Pendant.

Traditionally the koru is said to represent new beginnings, growth and re-generation.

We know it symbolizes the fern frond seen in New Zealand’s native bush because of the native New Zealand people, the Maori, proverb that speaks of rebirth and growth: Ka hinga atu he tete-kura – ka hara-mai he tete-kura

As one fern frond dies – one is born to take its place.

The Adze or Toki symbolizes strength as it represents the traditional Maori tool, whose blade had to be strong so as not to break when used.

This design represents the Toki or Adze ("adz" in American English) which was used to carve the great canoes and also to cut and work timber for the fortresses or Pahs in which the Maori lived.

It was such an important tool in Maori life that it became regarded as a symbol of power, authority and good character.

Paua used in Jewellery.

New Zealand Paua (Abalone) when used in jewellery is said to bring prosperity, good luck and peace to the wearer.

The shell inlay is Paua shell and adds another layer of beauty.

This Maori necklace comes with a black adjustable cord.

The height that the pendant hangs at can be adjusted using the sliding knots.

Size Approx 145 H 35mm W.

We photograph each piece but a slight colour variation may occur.
