Whale Bone Engraved Toki with Paua Pendant.

The Adze or Toki symbolizes strength as it represents the traditional Maori tool, whose blade had to be strong so as not to break when used.

This design represents the Toki or Adze ("adz" in American English) which was used to carve the great canoes and also to cut and work timber for the fortresses or Pahs in which the Maori lived.

It was such an important tool in Maori life that it became regarded as a symbol of power, authority and good character.

Paua used in Jewellery.

New Zealand Paua (Abalone) when used in jewellery is said to bring prosperity, good luck and peace to the wearer.

The shell inlay is Paua shell and adds another layer of beauty.

The whale bone, coming from a creature of the sea, amplifies this protective energy.

Strength and Endurance: Whales are regarded as symbols of immense strength, longevity, and spiritual guidance.

Ancestral Connection: Whale bone carries significant mana as it is often seen as a gift from Tangaroa.

Such materials are sometimes passed down through generations, strengthening ties to family and heritage.

Sustainability and Ethical Considerations.

In modern times, whale bone is typically sourced from whales that have died naturally or stranded themselves, ensuring respect for marine life and adherence to conservation principles.

Cultural Respect.

For Māori, the toki is more than an ornament; it is a taonga (treasure) imbued with spiritual significance.

Non-Māori wearers are encouraged to appreciate and respect its cultural roots and meaning.
