5 Pin Heru Comb.

This Heru (Maori ornamental comb) is approximately 140mm long and features a shapely Rimu veneerboard body with head portion decorated BOTH SIDES with paua inlayed koru design.

Heru were traditionally used by menfolk to fasten their long hair, which was oiles and sometimes braided, up into topknots and often augmented with bird feathers. Heru indicated the rank of the wearer, and were usually carved from wood or whale bone.
